To continue on the thoughts from the game description - the charted positions are from the American Billboard Hot 100 chart! The Billboard R & B chart positions would generally be much higher! Unless you are a Soldier of Soul, this will be extremely tough!

This is so good as to weep! I have nearly all these CD's too. One minor correction: You have the singular instead of the plural of the group name on Everything's Tuesday. I only got it because of a mistype, then recognized they had several hits on this compilation.

@rockgolf - that's how it was originally listed on that record (according to Record Research), the plural is acceptable as well. It was also listed that way for their last BIllboard Hot 100 hit "Finders Keepers" which, unfortunately, was not on this series.

I would use a different tagline/title than Soul Hits of the 70s.

As explained in the archived comments, the tracks listed are from the now out-of-print series from Rhino Records call "Soul Hits of the 70's". The albums, released in the 90's, chronologically captured a lot of hits from the soul chart by acts who wouldn't often qualify for a "greatest hits" album. No Motown acts, but lots of great, great music.
The tracks on here are from the first couple of volumes in an 18-volume series. So there's lots of room for sequels.

I was also a fan of the 'In Yo' Face: The History of Funk' series. Great quiz.

Yippeeyappee's feelin' happy! Didn't expect to see this one make it to the main page - thanks, rockgolf! From the archived comments - "To continue on the thoughts from the game description - the charted positions are from the American Billboard Hot 100 chart! The Billboard R & B chart positions would generally be much higher! Unless you are a Soldier of Soul, this will be EXTREMELY tough!" I will be contributing part 2, which covers 1971 - 1973, in a couple of weeks and I am currently also running a couple of other '70s series, as well. Also see the awesome clips series from user sbme! Thanks for playing!

I anticipated I'd know quite a few more than I did. I could hear the voices so clearly, but the names didn't come. Only got a handful.

THE CORNELIUS BROTHERS AND SISTER ROSE? No one said "the" back in the day, this is the first I'm hearing of it, but regardless, to not accept Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose because of the missing "the," and on SPORCLE??? Someone has to fix this, it took what should have been nothing but fun, because it's a great quiz focused on a great time in music, and turned it into a frustration, which, of course, we all need, right???

@AtoneMENT: Thanks for the compliment on the quiz! The editors must have fixed it, because I tried enetering it without the "the" and it worked for me! Cornelius Brothers also works. You never have to type the word THE when answering a Sporcle quiz, same with A and AND. If you want to feel better, go listen to the Staple Singers song!

Hmm. I must've mistyped and not realized it because there were two that I know I typed the correct answer but they didn't take. Oh well.
And regarding the R&B chart positions, not necessarily. The entries, "Grazing in the Grass" and "Love or Let Me Be Lonely," were bigger pop hits than on the R&B chart (R&B #5 & #13, respectively) and neither "Are You Ready?" nor "Double Barrel" even cracked the R&B Top 40. And, somewhat surprisingly, of the only two songs on the quiz listed as reaching #1, only "Want Ads" reached the top of the R&B chart ("War" stalled out at #3). Aside from "Want Ads" only 5 other songs went all the way to #1 on the R&B chart ("Rainy Night in Georgia," "Turn Back the Hands of Time," "Love on a Two-Way Street," "Groove Me," and "Mr Big Stuff").

@quent1979: User sbme (and sbme1) has a great series of naming songs by clip - he is currently doing the '70s. I am also in the midst of a 22 part Name The '70s Artist By Song Title series, of which this quiz was the third installment. There are 4 more in my contributed games, with another being contributed this week, and another Soul one next week. They will be getting easier the further into the '70s I go.
