Nice quiz. Victoria is also the capital of Seychelles on the island of Mahé. Maybe that could be accepted as an answer as well? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria,_Seychelles

@beckala63 - you caught me before I could comment - please everyone let me know if there are any other conflicts and I will adjust. I will be doing a part 2 and there are two valid answers to Saint John's! Don't get too distressed when you see Ngazidja and a question mark pops up over your head - typing in Grand Comoro/Grande Comore will get you that answer! Thanks Sporclish folks!

Hispanola is normally spelled with a tilde over the n, not an i, so it's sort of hard to not accept the word sans I.

By the way if you like History, New Wave Music, Scrabble, magazines or just being buttered up, I posted some other quizzes this month at http://www.sporcle.com//user/yippeeyappee/contributed

@Matt91486 I couldn't find that spelling at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispaniola and if you can't trust the accuracy of Wikipedia, what can you trust? However, It seems like a reasonable alternative, right folks?

I believe the spelling Matt cited may be correct in Spanish, but not in English. Also, isn't Hamilton the name of a city in New Zealand (can't recall what island) as well as in Bermuda?

@NYCub - I thought that was the case with Hispaniola. Also, Hamilton is indeed in New Zealand, but it is also on North Island, the same as Auckland, so it is not the largest city.

Really good idea for a quiz. Maybe you could accept Sjaelland as an alternate spelling to the answer of Copenhagen. Though I'm American, that's still the spelling I've seen most frequently used (though Wikipedia redirects me).

Great quiz. Also, you might want to accept PEI for Charlottetown... local parlance.

@LeGrandFromage9: As per the first comment, I have to leave something good for Part 2! Havana wants some love too. @elnok, @moegoldberg: Done! @lskdjfhg76: I'm sorry you didn't like it, but please state why so I can improve it! At least you left a comment, unlike 99% of the one-raters!

I thought that Victoria was the name of the city in Hong Kong, so I was never able to think of Victoria, BC.

Palermo would be another good one for your 2nd quiz. Maybe Iqaluit if you're feeling cruel.

@alskdjfhg76: Previous comment would have been totally perfect for rockgolf's new Vampire movie quiz! @mcbain You are reading my mind (twice) @Geo_Crazy my sources say it is referred to as "Victoria City" in Hong Kong and I'm not sure if it has a new Chinese name. so I will stay with just beckala63's alternate for Victoria. Thanks for the comment!

Hamilton New Zealand has a population of 175,000 now. You could have used Valletta on the island of Malta, and you also know that there is a Victoria in Gozo (Although its called its Maltese name now - Rabat)
