Dog names have been done so, since we have both, I thought I would give equal time to cats. The source says the names were compiled by the Veterinary Pet Insurance Company, from policies, so I think these are slanted towards cats whose owners a) can afford pet insurance and b) would buy pet insurance. Please let me know if you think I should add clues for each name.

I appreciate you giving cats some love. They should get to be a part of Sporcle too. :)

Doesn't anyone name their cats socks or boots or whiskers anymore?

Wow, my cat has the 2nd most common name. Also surprised "Whiskers" didn't make the cut.

Surprised Felix wasn't on there. I had a Felix up until recently. NB I am planning to get a new cat and definitely going to get insurance. Maybe I am "well off" in that I don't have any other payments like a mortgage or credit cards, but I have waited til I'm sure I can afford it.

Went for the obvious ones like Mr Bigglesworth, Pinkle Purr, Pye wackett and Mr Bojangles. Shocked they were missed out.

I found this site with slightly different answers and it says it uses the same source: http://www.petplace.com/cats/top-names-for-cats/page1.aspx

This is the only Sporcle quiz I've ever taken where I literally didn't know a single answer.

Wow. People need to stop having animals when they really want babies. Look at all of those people names on that list. More than half are people names.

Holy crap, that was WAY more difficult than I thought it would be. When I was a kid, everyone was calling their cats Snowflake and Whiskers. Apparently things have changed.

I have had cats all my life and none had any of those names. Let's see there was Jill,Puff, Butterscotch, Fred, Barney, ChrisCat and Horizon. My daughter's cat is named ChuchNorris.

@Janet-I agree. I tried Midnight, Socks, Boots, etc. Very surprised at all of the human names on this list.

I give all my cats names ending in O. Thus far I've had Oreo, Mojo, Calypso, Gizmo and Alamo. There was also Daphne that didn't fit the pattern. I've already decided my next four will probably be Echo, Maceo, Marco & Polo.

This is hard. Dog names seem a lot more predictable than cat ones.

I thought maybe people name their cats after popular movies and such, so that's how I got Bella. After Fluffy and Mr. Pickles didn't turn up, I quit.

The only reason I got Chloe is because that's my name, and I cannot say how many times someone has met me and said, "Oh! My cat's name is Chloe!"

Im not quite sure what the creator of this quiz meant by asking for the names of "well-off" cats. What?

Too bad Shadow was 15th instead of 13th. Since you only give the name Shadow to a black cat, should have been 13th.

@vmarshall51: I guess that's because the list of top names comes from a veterinary insurance plan. So we're getting the names of just the fat cats! That's why there's no Fluffy or Whiskers. They probably don't do a pet census, either. Somebody should report them to Animal Planet!

Never thought this one would get published, but it's always fun to see one of your quizzes on the front page! Thanks, Sporcle! @vmarshall51: The "well-off" comment was because I never could afford pet insurance for my animals, but it has since been pointed out to me that it's not a bad idea! This list had me shaking my head too; I would have never guessed many of these names! Thanks for playing!

I thought I was bad because one of my cats has the incredibly boring name Kip, but at least it's not something crappy like Tigger or Shadow. Also my other cat's name is Cornbread, and that is the best cat name, no question.

Anyone who gets 100% on this quiz probably needs to spend a bit more time interacting with humans rather than with cats.

I love how misspelling tiger got me another answer. I also appreciate how these names work perfectly for the creepy cat ladies out there-- it used to be they'd sound insane for spending the day with Mittens and Snowball, but now they can totally talk about the awesome dinner they had with Chloe and Sam and not be questioned in the least.
