some of these numbers are correct but some of them, especially india, venezuela, ethiopia, and uzbekistan are way too large. India and Uzbekistan barely have any function jewish communities

These numbers were taken from www.nationmaster.com. I can tell you from experience that there are many Jews from/in Ethiopia, Uzbekistan and India. I'm not sure about Venezuela. Also, the same numbers are on Wikipedia, which is not a good source, but it verifies the numbers from the source that I used.

In 1938 there were 3,310,000 Jews living in Poland. Today there are 25,000. That's a 99.3% decrease. @#$% you Hitler!

@Sein1: these numbers really aren’t very large! eg Uzbekistan has around 17,000: if you had (to oversimplify) something like a dozen medium-size towns, each 5% Jewish, that would be enough to account for this number.

India has had Jewish communities for hundreds of years, and there are still congregations in Mumbai, Kolkata, Trivandrum (around Kochi), and Delhi. 15,000 out of 1.2 billion ain't many, but it is realistic.

Good stuff - I had no idea there was such a huge dropoff after the US and Israel.

@yaniv93 Great topic for a quiz, but actually, at the bottom of your Nationamaster source it says: "SOURCE: Wikipedia: Jewish population". That would explain why Wikipedia gives the same numbers, as you pointed out. Sometimes Wikipedia actually cites an accurate source, but in this case the corresponding Wikipedia page says "This section's factual accuracy is disputed".

The quiz should accept "america" instead of just "united states," but other than that, great quiz!

I love how the source says there's only one Jew in each of Eritrea, Afghanistan and Libya :P

There really is one known Jew in Afghanistan as Qaanol said. He has his own synagogue too.

The Falasha (ethiopian jews) were all airlifted in a mass operation by Israel out of the country in the early nineties during the civil war as the TPLF was gaining on Addis ababa to overthrow the derg, I've visited some former falasha villages when working in Ethiopia and its very clear that they've been deserted for 20 years. Less than 20 very elderly jews stayed in Ethiopia all of whom have now passed away. Uzbekistan and India however both have strong Jewish communities, there are two synagouges that I know of just in Bukhara Uzbekistan.

Great quiz! It was both great and a big reality-check getting all answers right. I think your source may in some cases be unreliable. I only know of my current country of residence, Portugal: according to census estimates 2006(next proper census this year) there were 5800 jewish people living in the country. Your source points to a very specific much lower figure (739) which I may tell you is less than the individual communities living in Lisbon, Belmonte and Oporto state they have(each) not to mention the Algarve region estimating 5000 people of jewish faith living there (which would bring the total to 10,000). I think some places like Uzbekistan and Ethiopia even Iran and all of Latin America apart from Uruguay, Brazil & Argentina are overestimated, while many others (mostly in Western&Southern Europe) are underestimated.
