The f-bomb has been around in pop music longer than most people think. There are claims that John Lennon says it about 6 minutes into "Hey Jude", but I've never been able to identify it. Blondie was the first band to have a #1 song with it clearly in the lyrics. Listen carefully to "Rapture". Alanis Morissette used it in an intentionally vulgar way in "You Oughta Know". Then Eamon upped the stakes back in 2004 by being the first artist to use it in a title.
This week, 3 songs in the American top ten have the word in the unexpurgated title. I expect that it's just a temporary trend, like "Groovy" in song titles of the 60s and "Disco" in song titles of the 70s.
At least I hope it is. |
