It took me four days
To hitchhike from Saginaw
I've come to look for __________
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
May, she will stay
Someone told me
It's all happening __________
They call me __________
And once upon a pair of wheels
Hit the road and I'm gone
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a ________________
Oh __________, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
The sky is gray and white and __________,
Sometimes I think it's hanging down on me
You can hear the ocean roar
And the superficial sights
The girl does what she wants to do
She knows what she wants to do
And I know I'm __________
Leaves are brown
And the sky is __________
_______________ a rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
And every stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band
I wish I was, _________
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain
I am an island
With a sad and simple face
And they signed it on the bottom
And the _____________ turn to brown
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand.
And here's to you, __________
Jesus loves you more than you will know (wo wo wo)
Sat on their park bench,
Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am
I get all the news I need on the weather report
From the moment of my birth
To the instant of my death
There are __________ I must follow
As we marched down to Faneri-o
Our captain fell in love with a lady like a dove
And they called her name, pretty __________
Cried the desperate mother
What's becoming of the children?
Are you going to __________ ?
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
I can't believe your song is gone so soon
I barely learned the tune
Here is my __________
Ask me and I will play
So sweetly, I'll make you smile
And the vision that was planted in my brain
__________ in the sky
Strands of clouds go slowly drifting by
You must be out of your mind
Do you know what you're kicking away?
You should know that I'm womanly wise
Still you try to manipulate me

This is a great way to format/present a quiz about song titles; one of the most enjoyable I've encountered. And it doesn't hurt that I'm an S&G fan either, of course. I expect a lot of quizzes are going to appear in this style; nice going wiggytitch.

A little heavy on the first album, including some songs that were not by Simon. I loved the quiz 'cause I've got the full 5 albums and still listen to them.

For "Save the Life of My Child", I think "desparate" is misspelled.

@WCRoentgen: Maybe he's since fixed it - "desperate" is correct now. @wiggytitch: I'm digging out my S&G CDs now.

This is great. Even though I know the Beatles much better, I think I prefer this to your Beatles one - an excellent mix of some that I knew and others where I had to try and work out what sounded right (with varying degrees of success). Love it!

He's been voted down, but I'm kind of with Tommy_C on this one. Why not use Bleecker Street and Sparrow from the Wednesday Morning 3am album? Both are pretty good songs and Simon originals. You could swap them in for Peggy-O and The Sun is Burning. I was going suggest taking out He Was My Brother, too, but I am surprised to find that it is a Simon tune under a pseudonym (according to Wikipedia). Not IMHO his best work. Other than that, good quiz.

I love all these songs. They remind me of my college days.

I'd love to have seen a lyric from "A simple desultory Philippic (or how I was Robert McNamara'd into Submission), one of the greatest song titles ever, or 7 o'clock News/Silent Night, one of the most chilling songs ever. What a brilliant poet Paul is.

Um...what am I missing in regards to how to play this?
Mar 26th, 2013 at 18:20 GMT
@jeffg3wksapart I always thought of that song as poignant rather than chilling – didn't get any feeling of menace from it – but let's not split hairs. Lovely quiz, full of memories of listening to the 'Tales Of New York' compilation. :)

"The Late Great Johnny Ace" was a Paul Simon solo song. But I wouldn't get rid of it since it's a great song.

You're missing "turn to brown" in the "Leaves That Are Green" lyrics.

Great to see so many of Rhymin' Simon's song-poems in one place. Great quiz!

Shouldn't "a rose" be "arose", one word?
