| I know I usually tend to ramble and such, I will try to keep this short…ish:
This is the first in what should be a series of quizzes inspired by (nsx)darinh’s fantastic Ultimate US City Map Qui…okay lets just call it an exam. As with most sporcle quizzes, I didn’t get perfect the first time and wanted to “study” and “learn” (read: mindlessly memorize useless data to avoid doing homework/get through lectures) until I could get it perfect. Well this was a much larger task than for most standard, less than 300 answer quizzes. So, I started to make these for myself, to be able to get that extreme satisfaction of having an entirely clear state on the map. Not sure how far I will take this series, but I am starting with what were, for me, the easiest states to learn/the first ones I did and will continue until I get bored or fry my macbook by continually running that flash-intensive quiz.
All data is from the 2010 census, and is cross-checked with the aforementioned quiz to ensure compatibility (can’t get the exact source to always work on my computer so I just used the order that darin did, but some cities that are beyond 50th in their respective state, may be slightly out of order). Same qualifications apply:
“I *DID NOT* include townships EXCEPT NJ Townships (as in that state they are equivalent to cities/towns) and Michigan charter townships in this quiz, NOR towns in New York due to their differing status from towns in other states. This way the quiz is using places that would certainly be on any largest cities quiz (well, until you get down to smaller populations). CDP's only included for Hawaii”
Part one is 13 of the 14 states (New Mexico is in part 2) with the least number of municipalities (under 50 each) with 5k+ people. Please let me know what you think, if you have any suggestions, corrections, etc. Enjoy (the 4 others of you who actually enjoy geography memorization as much as I do for some reason ☺)! |
