Thanks for taking my quiz! Even though the rules say you'll never go back to horses, you are allowed to take my World Horse Population quiz. I suppose. Sporcle on!

I wish you'd give us a little more time. I'd like to be able to think about the quiz instead of just trying to speed-type country names in.

@Chocolatl: I'll think about that, if I get similar feedback from more people. I'm very particular about time being good for quiz-takers, but I don't want to change it right away. Thanks though!

The time is fine as it is. ONce you get a country from a continent (say Cuba) you start to guess around it and time doesn't become problem.

You could almost make it the 20 classic Latin American countries (the OAS and Pan-American Union before 1960) and subtract the handful that don't rank in the top 30. Then add the Maghreb, Iberia, the Aegean, part of the Horn, the biggest countries in Asia and some of their larger mountainous neighbors. Oddly enough, none of the 15 ex-Soviet republics, the former Soviet satellites or Indochina have many mules; perhaps from some decision of central planning? But then neither do Europe north of the Pyrenees or any country south, southeast or east of China.

Quasi-spoiler alert
OK, I counted out and exactly half of the top 30 mule countries come from the OAS or Pan-Am Union of the 1940's and 1950's: of the five OAS/PanAm countries that don't, two begin with P, two with C and one with U.

Whose job is it to go around counting mules?
