	It would be helpful if this quiz indicated that it's not referring to legal "cities". Arlington is a county, not a city. Centreville, Burke, Reston and Annandale are all unincorporated communities in Fairfax County. Dale City and Tuckahoe are also unincorporated. I lived in Arlington for six years and didn't even try it because of the misuse of the word "city". Just a notation that the answers include Census Designated Places and not just legally incorporated cities would be very useful. Thanks!

	This quiz names a lot of weird place, like... Dale City counts as a city but dumfries, manassas and woodbridge don't? They are much larger, I'd say, and Dale City isn't even really a city...it's like a street. Just a weird use of the word 'city' like borodino21 said. For instance, Centreville is a suburban community, there is nothing 'city-like' about it.

	@k3lit0: Well, jeez, let's just re-write all the quizzes in terms of your impression of how big the cities are. I mean, that must be more accurate than the Census Bureau's efforts to, you know, actually count the people living there. FYI, according to the source: Dale City 55,971, Dumfries 4,937, Manassas 35,135, Woodbridge 31,941. And, of those, only Manassas is an incorporated city.

	The point that was being made is that this quiz can really throw off someone who's a resident of Virginia . . . you don't tend to think of those places as cities because of the way the city structure works around here. The independent cities are all cities . . . I'm not even sure what to consider the other places. It's kind of messed up, really.

	Following up on ragnarok's point: Virginia has a very strange local government system. If a community incorporates as city, it secedes from its county. So if something is an incorporated city, it's not in a county; and if a location is in a county, it's not an incorporated city. Taking up a different point: I don't have a problem with the quiz using unincorporated communities (and/or CDPs), but I think it should be stated that it is. Compare to the Michigan quiz, for example, which uses the word "city" and only counts incorporated communities. If the Michigan quiz include unincorporated communites (as this one does) fully a quarter of the answers would be different, with five townships entering the quiz and cities 16-20 dropping out. Since seven of the twenty answers of this quiz are unincorporated, I think that information should be provided in introductory information.

	Yeh, to only get 13 when I've lived all my life in Virginia...it would have been helpful to know it included communities that aren't actually cities. Or go the other way: include urban areas for all of them. Like Charlottesville - 40k live within the city limits, but another 100k live in the surrounding county. That's twice as big as Suffolk, which IS an entire county. (Oh, and I think if someone just puts in "NOVA" it should cover that whole mess up there. :) )

	Actually, as someone who spent most of his life in Virginia, this quiz is bull****. The areas of Northern Virginia mentioned before are not cities, they are simply pieces of a county. Fairfax and Arlington counties have something like two million people but can't count them as one group because they've been split into so many neighborhoods. Centreville, Reston, etc are not cities. Period.

	davidr: He has something of a point. This is a very poor quiz. Most of these quizzes do not use CDPs or postal divisions; they use incorporated places. Towns/townships are excluded from the state quizzes in the Northeast. If I'm asked to do a "city" quiz, I don't count CDPs.

	Yes, for Virginia the quiz ought to be for metropolitan areas, because the delineation between what is or isn't a city has to do with local government and not on population of an urban area. Though then you'd have to delineate which parts of NoVa belong to what metropolis or if they're all D.C's.

	The Virginia local government system (municipalities) kind of throw some of this off, but a resident of the commonwealth should still be able to get most of them. Unfortunately most answers are Northern VA sprawl cities.
