Gah I knew I would have comments about this because I've already got it before it was published. First I would like to reiterate to please refer to the answer guide I posted right at the top. It's a step-by-step guide on how to solve the puzzle. It's very descriptive, and its very existence proves that no guessing is necessary.
Now I will answer this step in the comments because I threw a hardball right away after 7 correct steps. You're all talking about when A4 is found to be safe and says "only 1 mine is adjacent to it". You also have the clue on E5 that says every safe spot is adjacent to at least one mine. OK, so back to A4, you know you have one mine on either A3, B3, B4, B5, or A5. ASSUME that there is a mine on B3 or A3. That means that B4, B5, and A5 are safe. But then that means there are NO mines adjacent to A5 (you've considered A4, B4, and B5 to be safe), which counters the "every spot is adjacent to a mine clue". Thus you know that your assumption cannot be true, which means A3 or B3 cannot be a mine and thus they are safe.
Again I reiterate, please check the solutions I posted at the top of the comments. It's extremely descriptive and clearly explains how this puzzle is solved (without guessing!). |
