Minor correction: you have Cairo listed in India. I've seen Nizhny commonly anglicized as Nizhniy as well. Might be good to accept either way?

Has anyone else noticed that Virginia Beach is in a heck of a lot of quizzes? Now it's breaking into the world scene...

I never noticed how many megacities have 5 letters until neither Lagos nor Dhaka made it to this quiz.

Apparently my mental list of 4-letter cities includes both Riga and Oslo, but not Kiev. What's up with that?

I'd have thought Goa would be there. Wikipedia lists it as 1,400,000 though your source obviously disagrees. Also 24 million for Guangzhou seems high to me.

Saint Petersburg. That's 15 letters, not 12!

I think you should consider accepting Qum as an alternative spelling for Qom [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qom]. That's the only 3-letter entry I thought I knew.

I second tiagolandi: "Saint Petersburg" is 15 letters, the 12-letter spelling is just an abbreviation. @ghosty: Goa is a not a city, it's a state (and not a city-state).

Alternative spellings "Dnipropetrovsk," "Dnieperpetrovsk," and "Teheran" could/should be accepted... so should "Kyiv," although I didn't remember it so don't know whether you already accept it. GOod stuff-- it's always funny to see a list with the likes of both Vishakhapatnam and Virginia Beach...

how come you used only "new york" but included the "city" for "mexico city?" Shouldn't there be some repetition?

You've also missed Kano, Nigeria. According to this source (http://www.geonames.org/NG/largest-cities-in-nigeria.html) and Wikipedia it has a population of around 3.6 million

you should specify "METRO AREA" because san francisco isnt even a million people within city limits

Should Virginia Beach be considered the primary city in that metro area? It seems to me that it should be Norfolk. Good quiz, though.

@zeppeiin19: New York is the official name of the city; people only refer to it as New York City to distinguish it from New York state. In contrast, Mexico City is the official name of that city.

@wst: According to the source the quizmaker is using, however, Kano only has a population of 3,375,000, and so just barely misses the cut.
