The only teams not on here are the Rams, Panthers, and Patriots. StL was pretty much set with Bruce and Holt going into 2000, and Carolina got Steve Smith as a 3rd round steal in 2001. New England's last 1st round WR was Terry Glenn in 1996, although they drafted Tight Ends in the 1st round in 2002 and 2004. Deion Branch was 2nd round, David Givens 7th round, Troy Brown 8th round, Wes Welker and David Patten were undrafted. They have had Randy Moss, Dante Stallworth, Joey Galloway, and JJ Stokes in the last decade, who were all 1st rounders for other teams.
Detroit and Jacksonville are the only teams on here more than twice, and while the Lions have gotten a lot more attention for their mistakes, Jacksonville is pretty clearly 0 for 3 on 1st round WRs. With the resurgence of Mike Williams in Seattle this year, the Lions could actually be considered 3 for 4 on their choices, even if only 1 of them is still playing for them. Also, according to wikipedia, all 3 of the Jaguar's choices have had issues with marijuana, cocaine, and/or drunk driving. Soward "was almost killed by the USC mascot, Traveler, a horse, while he gestured at the opposing team's fans on his way to the bathroom in the middle of a game during his senior season." Perhaps a hint that he wasn't first round material? |
