| I've always thought this was a sweet little song, though I admit I did wish it had a happier ending for Puff. Just in case it comes up, I wanted to say that contrary to the urban myth, and stated emphatically by its authors and performers, it has and always was just a song about growing up, loss of innocence and facing an adult world. For quotes from Lenny Lipton, Peter Yarrow, and Mary Travers regarding this, see http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/puff.asp. When first written as a poem by Lenny Lipton, allegedly it had a final happy ending verse, but that was lost and the song was released with a sad ending. In 2007, Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton published a children's picture book about the song. I can't confirm this because I don't have the book, but supposedly, conveyed through the artwork, one is left to believe Puff had a happy ending after all. :) |
