	How very odd that Nicola is missing. I would have thought that in an English-speaking country it would be much more popular than the French version Nicole. Surprised not to see Nadia or Nadine too.

	On the contrary, I was surprised Nicola was ever big in the UK, the day I learned about it. ;) For some reason that was a completely one-sided name. Another name that was big in the UK but nonexistent in the US is Bethan.

	In the US, Nicola and Nikola are more used on boys. You can check the "beyond the top1000" list for more info. Anyway, I'm always so excited for your decade games triplet_3, you should do them more often :)

	I've also noticed the lack of Nicola in US baby name quizzes - I know at least two women around my age called Nicola, but I don't know anyone called Nicole. @ Pillbug: Nicola is pronounced NICKola. The ola part isn't pronounced like in 'cola', by the way. @ skizzo: you surprise me - I would never have guessed that Nicola was used as a boy name!

	I think it's really interesting to look at the differences between UK and US baby names. Yet another example of how sometimes we are divided by a common language! ;)

	@triplet_3: yeah I was sure that the US would follow the UK in regards to Nicola, but it hasn't been the case. Nicola/Nikola is a male name in pretty much every other european country besides the UK/Ireland, from Portugal to Italy to Russia.

	Thanks skizzo. I've done most of the letters for girl names now and have mostly moved onto boy ones. Life has been rather busy recently but I'll try to produce quizzes a bit more often! Goodness knows what I'll do when I run out of letters...

	That's interesting, so Nicola is like Andrea in that respect? pretty sure Andrea is only a female name in the English-speaking West.

	English-speakers have Nicholas/Nicolas for boys, so Nicola seems the obvious feminine version to me. Nicole is indubitably French. The French boys' name Nicolas is pronounced without the 's' of course, so sounds the same as Nicola/Nikola.

	Nicola was a very popular name among my contemporaries. I do know a couple of Nicoles, but they are younger. The obvious inspiration is Nicole Kidman, but there was also the series of ads in the UK for Renault Clio cars featuring Nicole and her Papa. I bet a few British Nicoles were named after her!

	"In the US, Nicola and Nikola are more used on boys." Indeed, I believe the U.S. follows the Russian use of the name. I've never heard of a female named Nicola. I knew lots of Nicoles growing up (child of the '70s), and it's my sister-in-laws name. I've also known girls named Nicolette and Nikki, also primarily born in the late '60s/early '70s. I've never seen the spelling "Nichole," though. I don't know why the extraneous H ended up in a perfectly good name.

	@Triffid, other French names have been popular in the US, such as Michelle and Isabelle. We didn't have the same aversion to all things French that the British did. ;)

	Thanks for another brilliant quiz, when you run out of letters for American names, (with regard to the comments before) perhaps you'll be tempted to try the English or Australian names!

	@Wren25: thanks for the positive feedback! I'd love to do an English or Australian version, but decade data isn't available for England as far as I'm aware. I don't know about Australia though - I'll look into it.
