It's hard to imagine that anyone ever named their son "Grover" without thinking of that voice saying "It is I, loveable, furry old Grover" LOL

I wonder if Grover Cleveland's friends teased him about that. ;)

Maybe accept alternate spellings: Glenn/Glen, Gary/Garry. Interesting how Franklin appeared during 1880's then completely dropped off until 1930's for FDR but not again, even in 1940's Have to check out 'B' boys game to see if Barack made list.

I found the early years much easier to get than the current names - though I only remembered George in the last few seconds :-)

Good challenging quiz. Unsuccessful names from US sources (fictional or otherwise) that I tried included Franco (Harris), Forrest (Gump) and Frasier (Crane). Managed to forget Gene, which to me is an archetypal American name that's almost unheard of in Britain.

I'm surprised by the lack of "Finn" for the 2000s. And I tried Gonzo, but not Grover. :(

I thought I was so clever when I tried Gaylord and Gayland. For some reason I thought those games were pretty common a century ago.

Maybe it's a Michigan thing, but there do seem to be a bunch of Fords around here.

jeffg3wksapart: different spellings are considered different names, and would be separate answers if they both ranked (you see this a lot on girls' names quizzes with Sarah/Sara, etc). As for Franklin, when I hear Franklin I think more of Benjamin Franklin than FDR so maybe that had something to do with it.

I wonder, do we have ABBA or Billy Crystal to blame for the increased popularity of the name Fernando?

@thewildboo: with all the games I've played here this was the first letter name game I've played so that's why I was confused as to alternate spellings. As for Franklin, he passed away in 1790 so much as his name was still referenced almost 100 years later (don't know how much now in school centuries later) it's re-appearance in 1930's had to have been related to FDR I wd. think.

After I typed in Gary, I typed in Giovanni. I didn't think it was actually going to be on there. And yes, I tried Gayden >_>
