When I did Derek, I thought I was safe as far as variations of it go. Silly Me.

In desperation, I tried Dilbert... imagine my surprise when Delbert popped up in the end.

A kid growing up in the 80's watches Road House, years later as an adult has a son and names him Dalton. So in a few years when Dalton puts your head through a barroom table, this is why.

Huh, I thought Dakota was a girl's name these days. Maybe North Dakota is for one sex and South Dakota is the other...?

So when is Dougie going to be on the list?

I think Dakota is one of a handful of hyper popular names that popped into existence in the 90s: they started out as boys' names and suddenly shifted to being girls' names. See also Avery, Addison, Skyler, to some extent Devon, etc.

I was listening to Malcolm in the Middle in the background and thought I should try Dewey, but before I typed it I said to myself, "Nahh, no one is named Dewey".

Can't believe "Dad" didn't make the list. I can't tell you how many times I hear that name called out in public!

I was sure that "Dwight" would appear in the 40s or 50s.

David and Daniel are timeless classics, but Dakota? If I ever have a kid, I'm calling him Wyoming!

I thought 'Dewey' was just made up by Disney to rhyme with Huey and Louie!

I somehow got Delbert, but forgot Dale, which is what one of my great-grandfathers was named...

@jobean82: Ha, I hadn't thought of that! I got Dewey only because it was my grandfather's name. He was born in 1898, and I think the name was popular around that time because of General George Dewey's heroics in the Spanish-American War.

Derek is a truly awful name. It sounds like some sort of alien.
