I don't think it's based on opinion, either. He is taking historical sources, putting them in a database, then running a query against that database. One criticism I have with him is that he is truncating the names to the first 8 characters, according to the explanation of his code located at http://www.galbithink.org/names/ginap.htm. I assume he went back and manually added the extra letters in names like "Washington," but that's not a huge problem if he has both the source data and the resulting data sets. I also have some concern about his admitted assumption that those individuals not explicitly recorded as female must be male. According to the explanation of his code, he states that he does this because "medieval" records mostly concern males. I think this may cause problems.
In general, though, I don't think this source "sucks." If someone has a problem with it, they're not forced to take the quizzes that use it. |
