why do you have to type "lady" in front of jane grey to get it right? I tried typing "jane grey" so many times! can you add this as an alternate please?

You need to accept more alternative answers. I shouldn't have to type in Elizabeth I, you should take just Elizabeth or take Elizabeth 1 at the very least. Same thing for Elizabeth II. I should be able to type Mary Tudor for Mary I, or Mary 1. You need to accept just Jane Grey, not Lady Jane Grey.

Yet again confusion over Britain/England, I realise you do quote a source but it too is wrong!

I don't get the issue over using 1,2,3 etc over roman numerals. Roman numerals are convention for royals so it's instinctive to use them. I suppose it doesn't hurt to include them as an alternative though.

I'm okay with the numerals for Elizabeth and Mary, but Jane Grey should be accepted as she was the only Queen Jane.

Hello- Thanks for the suggestions, I uhhh... just started making these, so I'm still trying to understand the whole process. If anyone could tell me how to make alternates for an answer, I'd be glad to change some of the answers for the quiz. Thanks again!

There's a technical reason that Jane Grey wasn't accepted. Sporcle, as I understand it, can be made to accept last names (such as Grey), but to Sporcle, "Jane" looks like a middle name, rather than a first name.

So, in what way was Mary Queen of Scots not a British female monarch?

There are a number of major errors in this quiz. The only female monarchs of Britain were Mary II, Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II. In particular King James I would have been be seriously unhappy at any suggestion that Elizabeth I was ever monarch of Britain as he was King of Scotland at the same time as she was Queen of England. I guess you could even argue over Mary II as, although she was monarch of the countries that now form Great Britain, there wasn't actually a Great Britain until the time of Queen Anne.

Why bother clearly stating in the description that this includes both English and Scottish monarchs, then leave out Mary I of Scotland (Mary Queen of Scots)? Or for that matter, though more disputed, Margaret Maid of Norway.

This doesn't include Scotland at all. It's just England and the UK. You either need to include Scottish queens or change the description.

I'm wondering how you came up with 1145 as the date for Matilda. The source is a little confusing on the point, but seems to indicate 1141 as the relevant year (as does Wikipedia, which I know isn't an authoritative source, but is a bit less confusing).

Thanks for your comments and we have made changes where appropriate. @toucan, Matilda's 'reign' was definitely complicated and controversial, but the correct year is 1141 as you said.

Mary II reigned alongside William III, not William II, who was William the Conqueror's son and had been dead for almost 600 years by that point.

It's unclear what you mean by 'from 400 A.D.', since before the tenth century England was divided into several kingdoms, some of which did have female monarchs. I thought perhaps you meant that the monarchs of Wessex, who essentially became the monarchs of England, were included - but then Queen Seaxburh of Wessex ought to be on the quiz.
