| In some countries libel laws and slander laws are very anti-journalist, for example the UK, so that would probably be one of the "indirect" sources of pressure. In other countries, most or all the press is owned by a monopoly or near-monopoly, so that would also reduce real dissent (stories criticizing companies owned by the owners or their friends won't get published). Without a source for this quiz, I don't know if this is a reasonable ranking, or one with a bias. Canada ranks lower than the US for this quiz, and I don't really feel "oppressed" up here. I'm more interested in finding out why Antigua and Barbuda has such a low ranking (81st). |
