Countries that don't have any land borders don't make the list. Sorry Japan!

I would never have thought that Dominican Republic was larger than Sweden.

Nice quiz :) skellig: The UK shares borders with Ireland, and arguably with Spain and Cyprus. It has a larger population than all 3 of those.

Just wondering shouldn't there be a country from central america somewhere because they arn't attached to mexico or usa or brazil and therefore it would make sense that one of them would be bigger than the rest. Apart from that a great quiz 5/5

I like this one a lot. It should probably state up in the header that countries with no land borders don't count. I was thinking Central America, too, but it turns out not to be the case. Basically the farther north in the chain you go, the higher the population (except El Salvador and Belize), and Mexico is more populous than Guatemala.

@ goody: actually, its rather a turn of luck (or not), that none of the countries actually qualify. They are in all order of sort. For example, the largest central american country is Guatemala. But it borders Mexico. So Honduras and El salvador don't qualify. And Honduras is bigger than Nicaragua, so Nicaragua doesn't work. In the same way down all the way to Panama.

I was thinking that Turkey should definitely be on here...but wait...Turkey borders Iran, which borders Pakistan, which borders India, which borders China...shoot.

The source document lists Turkey as 74,816,000 and Iran as 74,196,000 so unless I've missed a country Turkey should just about be on here? (Although the Turkish Government say 71,517,100 so it's very marginal)

Extremely fun quiz. Turkey should be listed as Asia/Europe. I know it would make it very much easier, but it would also be more correct.

Vivitar, I did think about that, but I think it is better as is because of how much easier changing it would make it. Plus, it is 97% in Asia, so I think it is accurate enough.

Awesome quiz. Though I didn't make a quiz of it, I have been working on determining which US counties are more populous than any bordering county. It wouldn't easily translate to quiz form, though.

AGAIN, while Turkey is both in Europe AND Asia, for statistical purposes it is ALWAYS identified as EUROPE and never Asia. Iran would be a much better answer.

Interesting quiz! Some countries definitely get an advantage! In terms of having a higher chance to be on this quiz, its great to share an island with only one other country, for instance.
