Great work! :) And wow, I guess West Hartford must be shrinking, because I know they were over 60,000 as of 2005. It'll be interesting to see how these lists after the new census projections come out! :)

Thanks! West Hartford is actually 11th, at 60,495, which is 200 fewer people than the 2005 estimate.

Wow - surprised at the absence of Portsmouth for NH and Newport for RI, but maybe they just seem bigger because of all the tourists.

LOVE this quiz! even though I am too tired, and don´t know New England as well as I should, so I only focused on VT, because I lived there for 4 years. I got 1-7. I hadn´t realized Milton, Hartford and Barre were so big!

I refuse to believe the capital of vermont is not one of the ten most populated cities in vermont. I was also surprised portsmouth wasn't on the list.

@buzzdaddie - Believe me, Montpelier is not one of the top ten. It's absolutely tiny.

Brianyankees, it did, but the Census bureau estimates that it has shrunk since then and now has a population of 8,602, making it 11th largest in Vermont.

These are ten largest *towns*, no? Greenwich, for instance, isn't a city.

So glad I wasted 5 minutes trying to remember the name Portsmouth, only to find it wasn't on the list anyway...

West Warwick, North Providence, East Providence, South Burlington, and South Portland. Plus New Haven, New Bedford, and New Britain. I'm seeing a pattern.

So, uh, I put in Derry purely to see if it was a bonus for the Stephen King reference...imagine my surprise that it was a real answer.

For a bit I was wondering why there were so many names the same as cities in England. The name New England gives no clue whatsoever.

@NoVan: We don't do well with change up here, and anyway, the weather's too lousy for us to be inventive. And as we like to say, the new Haven can't be much of an improvement over the old one.

I see now I should have spent more time guessing random towns of "old" England rather than trying to be clever and rack my brains for actual US geography.

@tjconn728: You've never heard that one? It's a really old joke/groaner. There's also a Jersey version of it. But hey, don't take it personally -- I'm from Hartford, so who am I to talk? ;) (And whoever down-voted you is silly.)

Man, I grew up in Massachusetts and have lived a total of 19 years of my life here, yet I performed quite poorly on every state here but Mass. I thought I knew more about New England!!

Esme, must be a Hartford joke, haha. Don't worry, I'm not really offended, I've heard far worse about poor ole NH.

@weizenugb: Don't feel bad I've lived my whole life (granted only 21 yrs) in NE, first in Springfield, MA and then Bridgeport, CT and I didn't do that well myself. Still love New England though!

I'm kind of upset that Quahog isn't on here as a bonus (or is it?).
