Feature length, theatrically released films only? Feature length TV films don't count?

Firelight? That's more of a student film than anything. Low budget. Was not released by a studio. His first three films released should be Sugarland Express, Jaws and Close Encounters.

According to IMDB, the title of Woody Allen's first film was "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" There's no mention of an alternate title where "lily" is spelled "lilly."

@fidelio: that's a typo and i'll fix it, thanks. @hifidigitalboy: i thought about putting that on there for a while. i think i'll just add it as an alternate. thanks for the input.

It was his first feature-length film, but it was made-for-TV. Those don't count, like the quiz description says.

Some of these directors (Tarantino, Coen, Jonze) were at the top of their game right out of the gate. Some of them (Kubrick, Scorsese, Allen) took a couple of movies to figure it out. Thank goodness they were given the chance to try again.

Arrrrgh! I just saw Kubrick's "The Killing" last week, and I still couldn't come up with it for this quiz.

Quiz description needs to say that it was the first three films directed by these directors. Woody Allen's first film was "What's new pussycat?", which he wrote and appeared in, but didn't direct.

This is a great quiz with an incredible group of directors. I didn't know that Spike Jonze had directed only those three feature films so far. Also, I applaud your attention to detail, thunderdan, for including a period at the end of two of the titles.

thanks guys, i'm glad you enjoy the quiz. i love all these directors. one that i left off but i really wanted to put on was steven soderbergh. i love his films but i left him off because i felt like "kafka" and "king of the hill" were just a little too obscure. anyway, thanks again.
