| Before mikehawksbig gets voted -100, I think people need to do a bit of research into "the British sense of humour". Personally I love you funny-talking Yanks. @canucklehead; I've never, ever heard a British person say "rubber" to mean "condom", it's something I've only heard in American films. I would also disagree with your description of "rubbish" as a "mild curse". Instead, I'd say that besides the everyday meaning given here, it can be used metaphorically to mean 1) nonsense or, more colloquially, 2) not very good. An example of 2) is "I'm rubbish at Sporcle"; as for your "oh rubbish!", you'd most likely say that if you were showing sympathy for someone else's tale of misfortune. |
