I only used A-Side number ones. As a result Sam Cooke's "Summertime Pt. 1" does not appear, as it was the b-side to "You Send Me" (the real hit) in 1957.

good quiz. i should point out, though, that the destiny's child song is "independent womEn," not "independent womAn." it's a common mistake, so it's not a big deal, and independent woman should probably be an accepted answer

Not really an answer to this quiz, but only half of Don McLean's "American Pie" reached #1. (The other half was the B-side of the single.)
