I was going to say that I pronounce San Antonio "san an-TONE-yo," with four syllables, but seeing as it's the most-guessed answer I guess I'm in the minority. :-) Good quiz!

Why is Virginia Beach a bonus? Is it not a real city?

"Virginia" is usually 3 syllables, to my ear. I'm sure there are other answers (such as San Antonio) which will be debatable as well, due to dialect/accent/what-have-you. Let me know if there are any others you'd like as bonuses.

I was surprised Fort Lauderdale wasn't on here, but I looked up the definition of syllable and indeed it's only 4 syllables. Good quiz.

Yeah, Washington D.C. would be a nice bonus.

Rancho Cucamonga is a brilliant name for a place. :) Especially if you heavily roll the R when you say it.

Washington DC should be included, especially since it is also know as the District of Columbia.

I don't understand the -4 for my comment. I realize it's 4 syllables and even admitted that. All I was getting at is that most people pronounce it "Fort Law-Der-Day-Ole". It's not like I was suggesting something not even close like Phoenix. Then I could see the strong disagreement.

Washington is now a bonus. Besides that and Virginia Beach, there's one other bonus that nobody has mentioned yet....

The original name of Los Angeles was "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula". I think I like it better as it is now.

Now that Wash-ing-ton-D-C is a bonus, when are you going to put Al-Ba-Ny-N-Y in? Same logic.

Your bonuses are rewarding ignorance. Washington DC should not be a bonus because Washington has only 3 syllables, and that's the name of the city. D.C. is the district that contains the city. You might as well include Kansas City, Missouri (7), Detroit, Michigan (5), Portland, Oregon (5), etc. Also, Virginia only has 3 syllables according to any dictionary (I checked Webster's, Oxford and dictionary.com) which means Virginia Beach only has 4. Just because people say it wrong doesn't make it 5 syllables.

according to census.gov, lexington-fayette, ky is the technical name for the city with a population of 296,545. your source only lists it as "lexington" but you might want to add it as a bonus. if anyone doesn't believe me search "lexington, ky" at the census site and "lexington-fayette" will come up.
