What is the differance in land area and total area?

My understanding is that total area includes internal bodies of water. That's what CIA's main page sorts by, and it lists Canada ahead of the US, but if you just go by land area then the US jumps ahead of Canada. That's why I list the US as a bonus answer.

I'm surprised so many people got sudan. I liked this quiz, I probably should have looked at the land areas themselves.

At first I thought it was going to be really easy. Just type in the largest countries right? Not so. It seems simplistic but isn't. Kudos. A defintite 5.

@Apollo846: But you can see Russia from Alaska. That's what I learned from the 2008 election.

@Fletcher: Land area of the US = 9,158,960 km^2
Land area of Canada = 9,093,507 km^2
@jaypunkrawk: You need to seriously STOP doing that. It is incredibly narcissistic and very rude.

DR seems almost too obvious when you consider that either Haiti or the DR HAVE to be an answer since they border each other only.
