Nice quiz. By the orthodox opinion, Australia isn't considered an island - it's considered a continent. If anything, for me, the Americas, Afro-Eurasia, Antarctica and Australia are continents, geographically speaking. But I applaud you for including Australia as I like to see it as the world's largest island. Greenland? No way. F**k orthodoxy.

As a geographer (master's degree), Australia is a continent and Greenland is an island. On some maps, because of the projection used and distortion that results, it appears that Greenland is equal to or even larger than Australia...but in reality, Greenland is about 2.7 million square kilometers...less than twice the size of indonesia and only about 1/7 the size of Australia.

Greenland however, is also owned as a territory by Denmark. And since Denmark borders both Sweden and Germany I exclude Greenland from this quiz.

Australia is not an island, it's a continent. And Nations that share an island with another nation shouldn't be counted since they aren't technically island nations because they don't consist of the whole island, just part of an island.

ah yes, now we get into the whole island nation/part of the island debate. i say if a country has a land border, then it is not an island nation

@ HiddenPalace, in other words you believe there are only four continents? I recommend you keep taking these quizzes.

Either way I do it, there will still be people arguing for or against having Australia on this quiz. In the results of the quiz, 100% of people have guessed Australia so its not like people aren't expecting it to be on here.

Why argue over Australia if EVERY person that has taken this quiz has guessed it? It's not like everybody is shocked that Australia is on this quiz. Let it be.

Taiwan is an independent country, just one without 100% international recognition (although even countries like Slovakia don't have that). Both Taiwan (ROC) and the PRC claim all the territory controlled by the other, but they're not alone in that (Serbia claims all of Kosovo iirc). As for the name, both Taiwan and Republic of China are commonly accepted as names for the entire country, even though the first isn't technically accurate (just as "Great Britain" is commonly used to refer to the United Kingdom, even though it doesn't technically cover Northern Ireland)

The argument against including nations with borders is a non-started. How can a nation with all its territory on islands not be considered an island nation? What a bizarre idea, that would rule out the likes of the UK which has the majority of its area on islands with no borders.
