Marvellous quiz! In the “game options”, if you turn on “Accept single character answers” and turn off “Filter default words”, that should fix the glitch with “y”, I think, and also stop “and” and “the” appearing for each other.

Great quiz - pleased with 38: had rather an environmental theme to the ones I misssed... Green, Sea, Bay, Oak, Wood. Yet I managed to get Ferry, Market and Airport.

I really am kicking myself over not getting some obvious ones like '&' and 'Airport.' My best answer was 'Port.'

Missed 'and' entirely. Brilliant idea though. Feel like I've been to most of them.

Could you rephrase 'St' to 'St/Saint' or equivalent? When it came up I thought it was an abbreviation for 'Street' so I never tried 'Street'..

Excellent. I thought this would be impossible until I realized that the words had to be common and either geographical or structural. It is fun to have a puzzle that is more than memory.

I don't know why people are down voting Mistakenblood. I had no clue what I was guessing and it was fun. Railways aren't prominent in the US.

@thebombdiggity15: I don't get it either. I would think someone would explain it instead of just voting me down.

Agree with Bandersnatch, I did the same thing. I also later tried 'Saint' and couldn't understand why it wouldn't work. That's my only complaint, so good quiz.

@mistakenblood. The explanation. Network Rail is the organisation that owns the infrastructure of the national rail network in Great Britain. This quiz is asking which words come up most frequently in the station names around the network.

@marisbest, I assume that Y is from the stations in Wales like Pen y bont and Y fenni. @mistakenblood you're guessing the most used words in the names of railway station in Uk. So as well as the town or city name they usually have other directions like 'Liverpool Lime Street' or 'Brimingham New Street' or 'London King's Cross'.

@bandersnatch (good to see somebody else has a Lewis Carroll inspired name) and @planetmutty: Sorry, can't fix this now the games been published.

@marisbest: 'y' is common to a lot of Welsh placenames and, according to Wikipedia, means 'the'. th' is just an abbreviation for the, and comes up in the station in Bolton called Hall i'th' Wood.

@thecheshirecat technically it doesn't mean anything, its just a odd letter dropped in (don't ask me, I'm welsh and I don't get it either)

@raspberry: According to this online dictionary (http://www.geiriadur.net/index.php?&page=bannod&prefLang=), "y" functions in Welsh grammar as a definite article (equivalent to "the" in English). So it does have a grammatical purpose, namely a specifying or particularizing effect for the noun it's used with, sometimes indicating that the noun is unique or well-known, rather than indefinite or general.

There are indeed 6 (Welsh) stations with "Y" as a single word in the name, 3 of them on one line! Would it be bad form to list them for the benefit of confused people who commented above?

@thecheshirecat: i enjoyed your comment as i frequently go through hall 'i'th' wood to get to bromley cross station. Unfortunately despite the fact that i seem to spend a ridiculous amount of time on trains i still missed loads. Still enjoyed this quiz :)

@Driverbod: Tal-y-cafn, Betws-y-Coed, Pont-y-Pant, (all on the Conwy Valley line), Cefn-y-Bedd, Pen-y-Bont, Troed-y-rhiw. @aussiec: If the driver of your train to Bromley Cross looks like the picture on the left, there's a very good reason

Was rather surprised "Victoria" wasn't on the list, but it seems only London, Southend and Manchester Victorias survive (Nottingham, Sheffield, Norwich, Swansea and possibly others have closed).
