Yeah both those contracts are far worse than Rashard's or Kirilenko's. Arenas' deal is probably the worst of the decade following his recent scandal and injuries, and Houston's isn't far behind (100 million back in 2001 was practically Kevin Garnett money).

Arenas isn't as bad since they wont have to pay him once he's found to be committing a felony.

Lewis helped lead the Magic to the finals. Overpaid, definitely. One of the 10 worst of the decade, no way.

Mark Blount was a such a bad contract. Grant Hill (93 Million over 7 years, most of which was missed with injuries). It was a sign and trade.

Got all of them with nearly 4 minutes left because I love the hilarious contracts in the NBA!! OMG Ericka Dampier has a contract worth 73 Mio??? I don't understand why Jeffries is in this list. He's a very good defender and a perfect role player! I agree that Arenas and Houston should be included! @wfuwaldo: The Lewis contract is definetly one of the worst I've ever seen! He averages less than 15ppg and will get more than 60 mio for the next three years! Holy Sh..!!

what!? why is lewis on here? i guess being an all star and leading your team to the finals isn't why they signed him? i also personally disagree with peja and andrei. peja may not be as good as he was in sac town, but when paul was hurt this year, peja averaged 30 a game

@hollins How can you say that Lewis is one of the worst? Your reasoning is that he is averaging less than 15 but that is just this year and it's only half a season. Does that take away from the averages of 19 and 17 (plus helping the Magic to the finals) he had the last 2 seasons?

these aren't all free agent signings. Just off the top of my head, Curry was traded, Rashard Lewis was traded, and Kirilenko has always been on the Jazz

Also, Rashard Lewis really shouldn't be on this list- he was a two-time all-star for the decade and his team made the Finals last year. Mind you, who the hell reads (let alone values the opinions of) Yahoo! sports???

Arenas' contract IS bad, just because the Wizards MIGHT get off on a technicality doesn't change that. They gave a max deal to a one-dimensional scorer who was coming off a bad knee injury. Consider how good Washington would be if they had spent their max contract on a real superstar. I would put that deal close to the top of the list because he was signed while rehabbing an injury.

Rashard Lewis was a sign and trade so the Magic could add a year and over 30 MILLION to the contract. Horrible decision seeing as he had agreed with them for a 5 year deal. I'm surprised that the Joe Smith contract isn't on here. It only cost the Timberwolves FIVE first round picks. He single-handedly crippled the wolves for the whole of Garnett's prime.

the article was written in August of 2009, which is why Arenas is not mentioned. even if it was re-written today, I don't think he'd be included because the author states, "We knew each of these deals were pretty dodgy the day they were signed, so let's not make any excuses." the Arenas deal looks bad now, but not when he signed it two years ago.
