Way too much time. You either know it or you dont. 60 seconds ought to make it interesting. Yes its american-centric. Get over it!! I did not complain when they asked about cricket or rugby or English football

if only "home team" was replaced by "cubbies" it would be right.

I just decided to look up who wrote this famous song, and it turns out the writers had never even been to a baseball game! ""Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is an early-20th century Tin Pan Alley song which became the unofficial anthem of baseball although neither of its authors had attended a game prior to writing the song." Never fear, though, they eventually got around to it... "The words were written in 1908 by Jack Norworth, who while riding a subway train, was inspired by a sign that said "Baseball Today — Polo Grounds". The words were set to music by Albert Von Tilzer, (Norworth and Von Tilzer finally saw their first Major League Baseball games 32 and 20 years later, respectively)."

@Joe Nope. Though most people sing it different now the lyrics above are correct as the were written in 1908. Here's a link to the lyrics on baseball-almanac.com http://www.baseball-almanac.com/poetry/po_stmo.shtml

The lyrics have changed, so why can't we sing like we do today, instead of like it was 101 years ago? I've never heard "let me" and I've been to LOTS of ball games. Opening Day rocks!

@ Elizabeth: I'll go in with the voting down of your comment. The proper version is not "home team" but "Cubbies." Of course, my White Sox fan husband says the actual lyrics are, "So, let's root, root, root for the Cubbies. If they don't win, it's the same."

My favorite rendition of this song was when Jack Buck (a famous Cardinals announcer) sang it at Wrigley. They made him put on a Cubs hat, but half-way through the fifth line, he swapped the Cubs hat for a Cardinals hat, and replaced "home team" with "Cardinals." Wrigley erupted with boos from Cubs fans, and screams of joy from Cards fans. A video clip of this is still played almost every time the Cubs play at Busch Stadium during the seventh inning stretch.

Why does everyone have to say "root for the Cubbies?" it makes them sound soft. It's Cubs. Do they say root for the "Reddies" in Cincinnati? "Bravies" in Atlanta? Just draw it out and say C-u-u-u-b-s people!
