You can't backwards project the BCS (which also happens to be a football-only entity) onto tournaments before its creation. The schools I named only recruited top-flight players, had big name coaches, routinely made deep tournament runs, and spent as much on basketball as any other school. Even now, Memphis spends more on basketball operations than more than half of the teams in the "BCS" conferences. How is that "mid-major"? These are all MAJOR programs. They go to Final Fours and win championships. |
