| @shakescene: Xinjiang and Turkmenistan are two separate regions and are not geographically linked by any common border. The reference to "Turkestan" is related to the Turkic language family, which includes the Uighur language of Xinjiang in addition to Turkmen, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Azerbaijani, and Turkish spoken in Turkey. As far as I am aware, no part of modern Turkmenistan has ever been conquered or vassalized by a Chinese government. Turkmenistan was in the Persian sphere of influence rather than Chinese. |
