	Who would have thought harmless little Belgium would leave the deepest stains on their colonial legacy. And that's not even counting Leopold's private ownership of the DRC area before they got it from him.

	I wasn't sure whether or not to count the years that the Congo was Leopold's private domain, but I decided not to. If I did, Central African Republic would also become an answer due to the administration of Oubangui-Bomou by the Congo Free State between 1892 and 1985. Should this be a bonus?

	@tbwilson: Thanks for the credit. I found your game when I was about to publish one that is identical this afternoon. The only difference is that I would have included the period of the period prior to the formation of the Belgian Congo to be consistent with other quizzes in the series, i.e. independent ventures have been included as colonies/administrations of their parent countries (East India Company, Sarawak etc). Good research, I have nominated.

	@Oli4: You're referring to Isola Comacina. I can't find much "official" information about this incident aside from a few travel guides. In one story, it was sold to the King of Belgium by a local mayor, while in another story it was willed to the King of Belgium after the mayor's death. The date seems skewed as well - The Belgian ownership happened either in 1914 or 1919, but only for the length of a year. I'm not sure how "official" this was, as I doubt an Italian mayor has the authority to transfer sovereignty of land to another country. I'll wait until I get zeppelinoid's opinion, but I'm leaning toward thinking the incident was a symbolic gesture rather than an actual political action.

	@tbwilson @ Oli4: You are correct that Isola Camacina on Lake Como was bequeathed to Albert I of Belgium in the will of the previous owner Auguste Caprini in 1919 and it casued something of a diplomatic incident at the time. The matter was resolved by it being treated as Italian sovereign territory but under the joint control of the Italian Education Ministry and the Belgian Ambassador. I do not thing that it can be treated as directly under the control of Belgium. It makes a great bonus answer.

	I've been doing a lot of research on Belgium's colonial history, and there's a lot more to it than most realize! Where Leopold II achieved infamy, his father could never reach his dreams of empire. There were proposed colonies everywhere from Texas to Guinea, and one attempt in Santo Tomas, Guatemala actually came close to fruition. Unfortunately, none of them were recognized as Belgian sovereign territory, so I don't even think Santo Tomas could count as a bonus...
