Ireland wasn't an independent country at the time of WW1, so can you accept UK for number 2?

Also, you should accept USSR as an alternative to Russia.

@bumfish I don't see why. The poster was clearly publishing in the Russian Empire (before the USSR). But anyway as written in the instructions we are dealing with modern country names, so the Russian Empire becomes Russia.

@AutonomusPlebian Ireland declared independence in the midst of WWI.. I tend to think that Ireland would be a more precise answer, but I'll have to look into it and check the dates again to make sure. And again, dealing with modern country names here.

@tal_oo theyy declared independence, but it wasn't granted until 1921. Also if you want modern country names you should still accept the UK, as its possible (indeed extremely likely given the Irish situation)that the poster was published in what would later become Northern Ireland

You're quite right about Russia. The Soviet Union wasn't formed until 1922, so I stand corrected. But Ireland was still part of the UK in WW1, despite moves to grant home rule.

Also the poster was aimed at people joining the British Army to fight for Britain.
