	Starting February 1st, 2011, the complete Border Country Marathon will go live. The series includes every country in the world that shares a border with at least one other country. That's 155 countries; from Russia to Vatican City. Each of the sixteen quizzes contains an average of 12 subject countries, 52 bordering countries, and a time limit of 5 minutes. Simply click on the NEXT LEG link in the source section to go to the next quiz in the marathon.

	Morocco for bordering Mauritania? (Sporcle considers Western Sahara as part of Morocco generally.) And accept Palestine for the Gaza Strip bonus too?

	@FreakyFlyBry: you're right, Morocco was missing as a border of Mauritania. It's been added, thanks for catching that omission. In regard to the Gaza Strip bonus, I think Palestine can be considered to apply equally to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Egypt is bordered by the Gaza Strip, but not by the West Bank. Also my source, the CIA World Factbook, treats them separately as well. For those reasons I don't think it would be a good idea to accept Palestine for Egypt's Gaza Strip bonus.

	@zewa: Kosovo is accepted as a country by my source, the CIA World Factbook: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/kv.html Kosovo is also accepted as a country in published Sporcle quizzes (see http://www.sporcle.com/games/world.php). I have chosen in this quiz to include those countries that are recognized by my source and by convention in Sporcle. All the subject and border countries included in the quiz meet that qualification. I have included bonus answers in two categories: territories that border a subject country but are not recognized as countries themselves, and countries that do not share a land or freshwater border with a subject country but rather are connected by a bridge or tunnel. Including Albania as a border country to Serbia, even as a bonus answer, would imply that Kosovo is not a recognized country. Kosovo appears in this quiz as both a subject country and a border country. I accept your point that Kosovo is disputed by some countries, but then so are: Armenia, China, Taiwan, Cyprus, Israel, North Korea, and South Korea. Nonetheless, I believe I am following Sporcle convention by including all those countries in my quizzes.

	**** Announcing MULTI-WORD ABBREVIATIONS **** For multi-word country names I am accepting abbreviations consisting of the first letter of each word in the English name of the country. There are three exceptions to this rule: Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, and Sierra Leone. For these countries the first word of the name will be accepted; namely, Czech, Saudi, and Sierra.

	REVISED Multi-Word Abbreviations: the rules for the multi-word abbreviations are very simple: use the first letter of each word in the common Sporcle name of the country to compose the acronym. Omit insignificant words: "and", "of", and "the". There are ten exceptions to this rule: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, El Salvaldor, Marshall Islands, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Sierra Leone, and Sri Lanka. For these exceptions the abbreviation is merely the first word of the multi-word country name: Bosnia, Costa, Czech, Dominican, El, Marshall, Saudi, Solomon, Sierra, and Sri. These exceptions were necessary in order to eliminate conflicts with other abbreviations. I was unable to come up with an acceptable abbreviation for South Africa and St Lucia. 	Hope you are enjoying the Border Country Marathon! If you want to tackle an even bigger challenge check out the Border Country Biathlon which is similar to the marathon except that both bordering countries and bodies of water are included. I was able to structure the biathlon such that there are no repeats of subject countries in the whole quiz series, something I was not able to achieve in the marathon. 	I really don't see the point in accepting all these shorthands. Sporcle convention necessitates only Rep Congo, DRC, UAE, US(A), UK and just Vatican for Vatican City. I know I'm not going to use them, because I'm used to simply typing out the country names.
