	Replaced Ireland with Guinea-Bissau in this quiz. I mention that because the countries bordering Guinea-Bissau (Guinea and Senegal) are likely to listed at the end of the % Guessed Right statistics because they were just added to the quiz. Ireland will be moved to one of the newer quizzes. I'm trying to fit all the medium-sized countries into the fewest number of quizzes, in such a way that no country is an answer more than once in each quiz. It's not easy ;-)

	@DeePee: that's the first feedback I've gotten on the time. If anyone else feels the same please bump up DeePee's comment and I'll add an extra minute. Right now only 4.2% are getting everything right, but 58.4% are missing less than six answers.

	Starting February 1st, 2011, the complete Border Country Marathon will go live. The series includes every country in the world that shares a border with at least one other country. That's 155 countries; from Russia to Vatican City. Each of the sixteen quizzes contains an average of 12 subject countries, 52 bordering countries, and a time limit of 5 minutes. Simply click on the NEXT LEG link in the source section to go to the next quiz in the marathon.

There are three exceptions to this rule: Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, and Sierra Leone. For these countries the first word of the name will be accepted; namely, Czech, Saudi, and Sierra.

	Sometimes the multi-word abbreviations help, but sometimes they get in the way. SA gets in the way of Saudi Arabia, for example

	@TJL: yes they are definitely a mixed blessing. I'm very happy to be able to type BH for Bosnia and Herzegovina and SVG for St Vincent and the Grenadines, but annoyed to have South Africa (SA) accepted somewhere else when I'm just trying to enter SAudi Arabia, or get United Kingdom (UK) accepted somewhere else when I'm just trying to enter UKraine. The compromise I've settled on for this quiz series is to allow all the multi-word abbreviations, except for the very few cases. For example, I rearranged one quiz so that (if you do the quiz in the normal left-to-right, top-to-bottom manner) the UK answer will come before the Ukraine answer. In the very few cases I was unable to do this I have omitted the multi-word abbreviation. For example, you should be able to enter CR for Costa Rica, but if Croatia is an answer earlier in the quiz then the CR abbreviation is omitted for that one occurrence of Costa Rica. So when you type "cr" it doesn't jump ahead to accept the Costa Rica answer but allows you to continue typing "oatia" for the Croatia answer. In this rare case you would have to enter Costa Rica when you got to that answer instead of the normally accepted CR. So by all means use the multi-word abbreviations. It will make you're life easier, but if it doesn't work for a particular answer try the full Sporcle name.

	I've had some time to use the multi-word abbreviations now and for the most part I like how they work. I think they're easy to remember since it's really just using the first character of each word. It's pretty consistent, except for the three exceptions (Czech, Saudi, and Sierra), all multi-word abbreviations are formed in the same easy way. The exceptions themselves are all formed in the same way too, just use the first word of the name. I have discovered another exception however, Sri will be accepted for Sri Lanka. That will allow SL to be accepted for St Lucia. So it turns out there are really four exceptions: Czech, Saudi, Sierra, and Sri. I think the added complexity is relatively painless and it's a joy not to have to type Sao Tome and Principe and Papua New Guinea, but rather STP and PNG. Of course, no one has to use the multi-word abbreviations, they are just there as a convenience. Let me know if you love them or hate them.

REVISED Multi-Word Abbreviations: the rules for the multi-word abbreviations are very simple: use the first letter of each word in the common Sporcle name of the country to compose the acronym. Omit insignificant words: "and", "of", and "the". There are ten exceptions to this rule: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, El Salvaldor, Marshall Islands, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Sierra Leone, and Sri Lanka. For these exceptions the abbreviation is merely the first word of the multi-word country name: Bosnia, Costa, Czech, Dominican, El, Marshall, Saudi, Solomon, Sierra, and Sri. These exceptions were necessary in order to eliminate conflicts with other abbreviations. I was unable to come up with an acceptable abbreviation for South Africa and St Lucia.
