I put a short description below the title but it kind of got lost among all the other instructions. the name was to long to include basketball in the title. do you know how to get rid of the instructions that are not necessary such as the fact that order does not matter?

How in the WORLD are Connecticut or Florida on here? Either you or ESPN made a terrible mistake...

ok I clicked on the link and it wasn't you, my bad. That list is ridiculous solely based on the fact that UConn is 54...

Great quiz. I guess Florida's two titles don't count for much.

Good quiz. Omitting UConn and Florida is ridiculous. How can ESPN say that UAB and Dayton have had better programs all time than either of these two-time champions?

i was also perplexed by the absence of UConn and UNLV on this list. and if i may play devil's advocate, as an SEC fan am pleased to say that Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee (not so pleased with that one) all have fine b'ball programs with great histories. however between the 3 of them they have won 1 national championship. Florida has 2. the overall body of work may not measure up, but you've got to recognize the rings.

I can't believe UConn is missing! They have one of the best programs in the nation! (No I didn't even go there- look at my nickname people)

oh and include Vanderbilt in there too. no trophies on their shelves either. so that's 4 SEC programs with 1 championship on this list that doesn't include Florida. i know that prior to this decade Florida basketball wasn't worth the gas money to get to the stadium, but come on.

How is omitting any team in an objective ranking based on the number of wins ridiculous? Not only is it based on all time wins and losses - hurting teams that have only been successful recently (Florida, UConn) - but it says nothing about titles in the description. Sorry that UConn or Florida didn't blow it up in the 40s, 50s, or 60s. If they had, they'd be on here.

If you check the source, the rankings seem to be based entirely on Win/Loss record (since the 40s) and margin of victory (or defeat). It's a pretty ridiculous way to rank programs, with apparently no consideration for league or tournament titles or NCAA appearences, or for any sort of schedule strength.

I typed in "UConn" and when it didn't pop up I immediately opened the comments to complain about you not accepting it for Connecticut. Come to find UConn isn't in the Top 50, I just stopped taking the quiz. What a ridiculous omission by ESPN.

as is typical to espn, and as is typical to sagarin this list is garbage. absolute complete and total garbage. i really dont even want to know how they came up with this horrible list.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous UConn isn't on here. I guess having a hall of fame coach with over 800 wins, two national titles, 3 final fours, and over 20 players in the NBA doesn't count for anything.

@jaketaylor- Actually it does account for schedule strength, hence why a terrible program like Northwestern, which has never made the tournament, ranks 77. Still cant figure how UCONN didnt make the Top 50, even pre-Calhoun they had good teams in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Who knows.

As a Tennessee fan, I do not agree with this. I agree with what BamaGuy said. Also, UConn deserves to be on this list, and Arizona should be higher up. But I guess this is an ESPN thing, I'm not blaming the creator of the quiz at all.

yeah I know you didn't make these rankings, but they are just terrible. Florida, UConn, LSU, Houston, UNLV all should be on the list. Definitely ahead of teams like BYU, UAB, Western Kentucky, and so on. Ridiculous.

Good quiz, I believe that your rankings are very questionable. For example Iowa is #10. In addition, you need to give the players more time because your rankings are not normal and there are 50 answers.

the rankings are not mine. espn made these rankings based on some system (follow the link for more info) of wins and losses for all time. basically the teams that are not on there, such as uconn, were not good 40 or 50 years ago where some teams like unc and kentucky have been good consistently. for a recent list, the link below is the same ranking system but it only takes into account teams records from 2000 to 2009. http://www.sporcle.com/games/swimtroll08/bballrankings00to09 as for the time concern, do other people think time should be added? i'm open to any suggestions to improve the quiz. thanks

I too like youngun13 am a hawkeye student/fan and being #10 is an outrage. I think we've only made 1 final four..ever (1980?) where as teams like UCONN,Arizona,Michigan state have actually been to or won the tournament...when it had 64 teams. I apologize to those teams. Not blaming the maker of this quiz rather the sagarin rankings

The fact that Memphis isn't on here and Tennessee is, shows how ridiculous these rankings are. Tennessee has never made it past the Sweet 16, while Memphis has 2 Runner-Ups, 3 Final Fours, 6 Elite Eights, and 11 Sweet 16's. But UT has 5 Sweet 16's. BULLS**T

@swimtroll08- I don't think anyone's blaming you for this list but as for your comment "basically the teams that are not on there, such as uconn, were not good 40 or 50 years ago where some teams like unc and kentucky have been good consistently," I highly doubt anyone is saying UConn deserves to be as high or higher than UNC or Kentucky. It's the simple fact that UConn, along with a lot of other omissions, is not even in the top 50, which is mind boggling.

@GUSESSHERMUF - Oregon is 50th on this list. If a team is on the list, they're ahead of Oregon. I second that the omission of UConn is pretty damned dumb. Not the testmaker's fault, but dumb.

This list is based on all-time records and strength of schedule. It rates teams who play consistently well higher than teams with a few great seasons. UCONN wasn't a even a Top 40 team in the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's and 1980's! That explains why they aren't up there. I don't think it's the best way to rank programs, but there is some reasoning behind it.
