good quiz, very educational for those who are always confused by military ranks (yours truly), yet fun

Seriously, 1 minute? Even if you knew all the answers it would be pretty amazing if you could type that out in 1 minute.

I think in order for a one minute blitz game to be fun, it has to be at least theoretically possible to get them all in the time allotted. There's simply no way to do that with this quiz.

@eln77: I disagree. It feels like Tetris to me: you can't win, you just improve each time. It also demands a bit of tactics. Typing 'peru' is a better use of time, for example, than 'mozambique'

i have to agree with the critics. I love the ranks quiz but the subject matter just isn't suited to the 1 minute format. Many of the ranks are complicated and involve non-intuitive spelling. And, for me, there's a lot of thought involved in walking my through the ranks.

1 minute is a joke. Even assuming you have them all memorized and categorized in your head, you'd also need to be a super typist to get them out. The record is 216 WPM. I am dumbstruck that 3% completed this quiz. Shenanigans.

Love the concept of the quiz, but one minute is waaay too short!

The people who scored 100% must have done it on an earlier version of the quiz with a different time limit.

there's no way this can be done in a minute - no way at all. I can't get through the army ranks in one minute - b.s.

Yeah, I don't know. There's a little strategy in trying ranks early on that are in as many branches as possible, but after that it's basically just a futile typing test.

I'm cruising along and suddenly the 10 second clock blinks. I'm 3/4ths the way down the first column and I was flying. Can't be done=not fun.

Especially given that some common abbreviations aren't accepted. If you're going to allow only one minute, then at least accept "Lt Col" for Lieutenant Colonel, and so forth.

Agreed with time time complaints. One minute might be too short to complete one column let alone all of them. More time, please!

PLEASE tell me that Sporcle meant to (re)publish the long version in honor of Veterans' Day, and that somebody at HHC Sporcle fat-fingered the URL. It'd be really disappointing to see a military quiz on this solemn holiday get the lowest rating in the history of published Sporcle games. (PS - To all vets out there, thanks.)

In addition to the ridiculous time restraint, there's no such thing as "SMG" in the Army. Sergeant Major is "SGM."

Better move it out of the Just for Fun category because this isn't fun. 108 answers means you have to type two answers in less than one second...not counting the milliseconds needed actually processing the clue and thinking of the answer. And typing speed is based on a word being five characters long, so this is probably the equivalent of having to type 200-300 wpm. I want to meet the person who can complete this quiz.

Maybe if it was broken into 4 quizzes at a minute a piece, it would be more sensible. Even then, trying to do even one branch at a minute would be near impossible. I mean, I know a LtJG is a Lieutenant Junior Grade, but I've never heard it referred to that way in normal comversation. It's always a Lieutenant JG.

Yeah, um, I don't know ANYBODY who could type that in a minute! I've known people who can type 100 words a minute, and this is NUTS, even if you knew all the ranks by memory!

I actually thought it was a fun blitz but I went into it knowing I wouldn't even come close to getting all the answers. From a conceptual standpoint, there's already a quiz for people that want all answers: http://www.sporcle.com/games/militaryranks.php
That's not to say that these complaints aren't valid but if you go into it know you can't do it but want to see how well you do, it's a little more fun. But then again, I'm not a fan of quizzes that give too much time just so people might be able to get 100% while sitting around thinking.

no way can anyone even type fast enough to get them all... and spelling these is insane - it should take answers even if they're misspelled. what a crock this one is.

Awful time limit. It takes one thing to know the ranks, its another thing to type out those long names that fast! I got maybe 55% through, and I knew at least 80% of them.

This reminded me of my time in the Navy and being just a petty officer-petty officer?"Maybe if I work real hard, I could be a Chief Petty Officer, maybe a Master Chief Petty Officer." Just kidding, this is a great quiz, and big ups to all those who serve in our military.
