Lunchables seems wrong. According to Wikipedia, it was the late 80s.
Nov 13th, 2012 at 01:09 GMT
Thanks a lot, that_pope. I was relying on the two cited sources, but you're right, Lunchables seems to have been off, so I've replaced that. My goal was to confirm all of these on official company websites, but a few product websites didn't have histories so I had to check them elsewhere.

Food Timeline is generally way, way off with its dates.
Nov 14th, 2012 at 00:53 GMT
OK, I've gone through all 52 items and found at least three sources for each one to verify the year it was introduced. Two of the items in the above-referenced Food Timeline had the wrong decade, so those have been replaced, as have three other items that might well be correct but for which I couldn't find the required three sources. To be on the safe side, I didn't use Wikipedia as a source. In most cases, the sources included official company websites, Kellogg's products being the main exception. Contact me if you'd like me to email you a copy of the list.

Thanks for the Editor's Pick, @Hejman! Also, now that I've created a website for posting the sources to my Sporcle quizzes, anyone who's interested can see the new source link above for the list of years and references.

I always thought Spam dated back to the Viking Age.

And Americans. Would like to know the correct answers. Fun quiz.

FYI - After the quiz is over, if you click on the wrong answers in red, the correct items are listed above - that's how you can find out the right answers.

Fun quiz, really like it. It's tough that if you pick wrong, you can't try another decade for the same set (obviously counting against your total number of guesses).

The only one I knew for sure was Oreos, because I still miss the birthday cake celebration Oreos they had in the last year or two for their 100th anniversary. :) Hard to believe some of these are that old! Fun quiz!
May 9th, 2013 at 21:14 GMT
Little-known fact: Oreos came out AFTER Hydrox cookies. Oreos were the rip-off, but they had better marketing and people eventually came to believe Hydrox was an imitation of Oreos instead of the other way around.

Great quiz! Though I do wish the Sporcle people would hurry up and make a business/industry category. So many quizzes like this one would be such a better fit than "Miscellaneous".

Last year, Oreo marketed its 100th birthday. Girl Scouts, too. And Arizona statehood.

Thanks for the publish, Sporcle gods! If anyone wants to know the specific year for each product, click on the hyperlinked source above the game ("Multiple Sources Listed Here"), where I created a year-by-year timeline of the answers. Thank you, @Spacemaniac; I really appreciate that.

I'm not from the USA and although I hadn't heard of a lot of them, there was mostly enough options in there that I could have an educated guess. 9 out of 13 isn't too bad for a Brit?

It actually got Raisin Bran wrong. Raisin bran was actually started in the 20's, and had a legal battle over the trademark of the name in the 40's. It didn't specify which brand it was talking about (possibly Kellogg's).
May 10th, 2013 at 19:45 GMT
Definitely should've scrolled through all options before clicking. Ouch.
