	The brilliance of these lyrics are beautifully masked by their simplicity. The writers wink at the audience - you've heard this story a thousand times, you know exactly what will happen - by stating exactly that in the opening verse. This is as much a love song to love songs as it is a ballad. Not a wasted word or syllable.

	@Gravey: Too obscure?!?! This song won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Song that year. It won Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duet and Best Song from a Film, and was nominated for Song of the Year AND Record of the Year. The pop version of the song was a gold record and a top 10 hit ... geez!

	Mencken and Ashman were as good of a songwriting team as America produced in the 20th century. I hope they're not overlooked by future historians just because their most famous scores were for animated movies and not "real" musicals. Disney or not, I don't think there's been a film or play since 1989 that contains two songs better than "Under The Sea" and "Kiss The Girl"

	@pchristofferson: To add to your comment, it's also the TITLE SONG from one of the most popular Disney films of all time (and at the time it was released, the highest grossing one) and one of the most critically acclaimed Disney movies of all-time (the first animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture). Nevermind the accolades the song itself received, just the fact it was a title song for a famous Disney movie is alone enough to make it very, very famous.

	This took me two tries to figure out which song it was! I was going through each Disney movie trying key words, and was getting nowhere haha. But once I figured it out, I got all but 7 words. :)
