| This is a very motley list of texts. Sure, Newsweek prepared it by aggregating lots of top 10 lists, but one wonders what lists those were and based on what agenda, authority, topical relevance, etc. I mean seriously, Oprah?! Isn't she the one who picked "A Million Little Pieces" for her book club?? "Gone With The Wind" makes the list, but no "Moby Dick" or "Great Expectations" or "Crime and Punishment"?! "The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money" beats out Newton's "Principia"?! Or Adam Smith's "On the Wealth of Nations"?! And as for the bible issue, I think it would be better to put "Moses, David, Matthew, Mark, etc." than "God". Or if you want to see how on-the-ball people are, how about "J, E, D, P, etc."? |
