| @midnight: Argentina, Chile and Uruguay in particular are populated almost entirely by European descendants. By the time the Spanish got to the southern part of South America, they were exterminating Indio populations wholesale, and as a result, nearly all of the people living in those countries are, broadly defined, "white". According to the Wikipedia page "demographics of Argentina", 86.4% of Argentines are ethnic European descendants, mostly Spanish and Italian; 8% identify as mestizo and 4% as Indian. For comparison, the USA is 72.4% ethnically European descendant; 6.4% are mestizo and 2.9% are of "more than one race". |
