winner got all of them

Have to say I had no idea that the Williams sisters combined for just 2 of these, with Venus never ending the year #1. I'm assuming this is due to them playing a light schedule?

In women's tennis the time of single domination seems to be over (for now).

Great quiz, no Boris Becker or Venus Willams was a surprise, but I suppose the lack of games played on grass and not playing all tournaments didn't help them. Was delighted to get 2000 Men's number one, if I hadn't I guess it would have been Kuertens for my score...

I knew I was in trouble on this quiz when I guessed Annika Sorenstam.
Aug 29th, 2011 at 18:27 GMT
Had no idea Davenport was no.1 as recent as 2005.
Aug 29th, 2011 at 18:45 GMT
Only 33.9% got Wilander? He won 3 majors in 1988, dethroned Lendl. He was my favorite player of that era.

funny how there are 72 answers but only 26 different people. Goes to show that many people didn't give up their throne easily.

22 Grand Slam singles titles between them, and Venus and Serena end the year #1 just two times? Seems like they should rethink the rankings to me.
Aug 30th, 2011 at 02:03 GMT
I thought that one of the guys between Agassi and Roddick would've been David Nalbandian.
Aug 30th, 2011 at 03:03 GMT
You gotta remember, Venus and Serena have sometimes spent big chunks of the year working on their clothing lines, acting careers, etc etc, and just show up for the glory events.
Aug 30th, 2011 at 03:42 GMT
Please accept Guga! I tried Querten a few times, before I gave up on that one.

2 of the last 3 women's number ones have never won a grand slam title, shows that the WTA computer rewards quantity over quality.
Aug 30th, 2011 at 12:57 GMT
Both ATP and WTA rankings are done purely on the total points accumulated in the past year, so the Williams sisters often are further down as they don't play as many events. In golf, the rankings are calculated on an average points basis, over two years, with events longer ago counting for less than more recent events. That said, the current no.1 and no.2 don't have a major between them, but then again golf at the moment is very open, I don't think a credible case can be argued for any current major champion to be no.1.

I forgot Mats Wilander ever existed.

You know you're an optimistic and quite screwed Brit when you try Henman and Murray

Oo-err, both the noise Kuerten made when hitting the ball and the noise I made when I pressed "give up" to see who I was missing (Kuerten, Courier, Wilander and Jankovic)

I got them all! Can't believe I managed that.
Feb 2nd, 2012 at 15:17 GMT
shocked i got them all tbh! couldnt believe it, there arent as many as you think, also amazed venus williams has never been end of year number 1 and serena only twice! henin dominated more than you think
Jul 25th, 2012 at 13:22 GMT
only 28% got Djokovic? and I know nothing about tennis...
Jul 25th, 2012 at 15:13 GMT
Wow - hard to believe Boris Becker was never ranked no.1
Aug 13th, 2012 at 06:17 GMT
@dakcrystal - Becker was ranked no. 1 - just not at the end of the year. This quiz is asking about year end number 1s. Many other players have reached no. 1 that are not on this list such as Venus, Moya, Rafter, Muster, Ferrero...
Dec 20th, 2012 at 18:58 GMT
I, too, find it hard to believe that Becker was never ranked #1.
Mar 18th, 2013 at 13:52 GMT
FInished with over 5 minutes. I think you should lower the time.
