Good quiz! You might want to consider accepting alternate cities for some urban areas - Norfolk for Virginia Beach, for instance.

I added the alternate cities mentioned for each urban area on the list at wikipedia, for example Oakland for San Francisco, or St. Paul for Minneapolis, but I can look for more someday.

I haven't found any sources that says "Norfolk is a part of Virginia Beach urban area" but it seems very likely that it is. So I added it. It's part of the same metro area and it's not an urban area of its own.

This is a good quiz, but the data is a bit outdated. It will be interesting to see how this list changes after the 2010 census. I know for a fact that Durham, NC, Greensboro, NC, and Greenville, SC would be on here.

I'm shocked that Poughkeepsie is on here...must be a very generous definition of urban area

You should accept F(or)t Myers for Cape Coral. The Metro is called Cape Coral-Fort Myers.

Urban area isn't the same as Metro area. The urban area in this case is called Cape Coral only. An urban area (in the USA) is a continuosly built-up area with a population of more than 50,000. A metro area has a wider definition. The sources I have used mostly uses the names of the biggest city or cities. I will erase Norfolk to make it fair and square - since it's impossible for me to check what smaller cities are part of all 100 urban areas.

Urban areas with a population between 10,000 and 50,000 are called urban clusters, and to be specific, the U.S. Census Bureau defines an urban area as: "Core census block groups or blocks that have a population density of at least 1,000 people per square mile (386 per square kilometer) and surrounding census blocks that have an overall density of at least 500 people per square mile (193 per square kilometer)."

I agree about Fort Myers-Cape Coral. Ventura should also get you Oxnard. When the two cities are very comparable in size, as in those two cases, you should accept either one, not just the largest one.

Good quiz idea, however there are definitely better sources out there (if the data from the 2010 census isn't out yet for that, they have estimates for 2009)
