When it came out in 1973, I have no idea how it became even a minor hit. In a radioscape of Osmonds and Dawn and Playground in My Mind was a song about gay hustlers, transvestites and drug-takers. It was so out of place that it would be like True Blood on the Disney Channel.
Okay we were all a lot more ignorant about such things, but there was no sugar-coating on the lyrics.
Little miracles like this song getting radio play should be celebrated. Not only do they not write 'em like that anymore. They never wrote 'em like that back then either. |
