That would be Billy Crudup in the Actor Playing Child column, not Billy Cudrup.

Allison Janney was Juno's stepmother, not her mom. That's partly why they had their big blow-out about allergies and Weimaraners. Juno's mom had left when she was young. She sent Juno a cactus on her birthday each year. Good quiz.

its maguire with a 'g' not a 'q' and you spelt streep wrong..how dare you
Apr 17th, 2010 at 15:09 GMT
Meryl StreeP (not street), Jerry MaGuire (not maquire), and Anne Ramsay (not Anney)... also, I've got no problem with the stepmother aspect of Juno. But if you're going to go there, you have to replace The Blind Side clue as well. (Adriane Lenox played his birth mother, if you want to go there.)

Yes, sorry about all that. I took the quiz offline, figuring that it was too hard in its original version to name the actresses, so I swapped to naming the films, and I was still fixing the typos while you were taking it, so I didn't catch those in time. I shall repair those other clues too!

Also, Joan Allen was the mother of Tobey/Christina Ricci. Sigourney Weaver was the the mother of Elijah Wood.

Sorry, my point wasn't just that Allison Janney wasn't Juno's birth mother. In the film, Juno calls her Brenda. Their relationship seemed more like they were friends. Yes, Brenda was great and supportive and went to Juno's ultrasound, etc., but so did Juno's best friend. I just didn't real see her as a "Mom" figure. You can disagree, and I don't mean to harp, I just wanted to make my point more clearly. Still, good quiz.

As of the time of this comment, the least guessed movie is the one called ... "Mother." ... That's pretty funny. (And a pretty good movie too, in my estimation.)

What a great quiz! Very fitting for the day. A wonderful mix of films, old and new. Some that I will now, no doubt, have to dust off and watch again. Perhaps there will be a Dad's quiz coming up for next month? (hint, hint...)

The fact that John Travolta wasn't gotten by far more people just shows how quickly some of us read through quizzes without really thinking about what the clue is saying. And I say that as somebody who missed it.

Is there ever a Sally Field movie where she ISN'T playing a mother?
May 9th, 2010 at 05:49 GMT
THE Lion in Winter, not A Lion. Great quiz though! Would have been amazing to see Murmur of the Heart in here, one of the strangest and most maternal mother/child relationships on screen.
May 9th, 2010 at 05:52 GMT
Maybe it's because I'm a man, but remembering actresses has always been far more difficult for me than remembering actors. That made this a tough, but fun, quiz.

Glenn Close is 9 years older than Mel Gibson, Sally Field is 10 years older than Tom Hanks, and Angela Lansbury was 3 years older than Laurence Harvey...
May 9th, 2010 at 06:00 GMT
@schulace: Probably not since "Absence of Malice." I don't recall her being a mother in the "Smokey and the Bandit" films or in "Hooper."
May 9th, 2010 at 06:23 GMT
Amy Poehler is only 7 years older than Rachel McAdams, so in Mean Girls McAdams was 25 and Poehler 32, yet it worked so perfectly. Crazy what casting and wardrobe/makeup can do.
May 9th, 2010 at 07:47 GMT
Too bad this quiz didn't have the 1948 version of Hamlet. Laurence Olivier was 41. His mother, played by Eileen Herlie, was 28. But who cares about proper film casting when you have Laurence Olivier anyway.

How did National Treasure 2 make the cut?

Mo'Nique's character from Precious is in a quiz dedicated to Mother's Day?
May 9th, 2010 at 13:01 GMT
Throw Momma from the Train?! Sounds so cheery, especially on Mother's Day...
May 9th, 2010 at 13:04 GMT
"Serial Mom" and "Throw Momma from the Train" = 5 stars. I could have used another minute however...
May 9th, 2010 at 13:12 GMT
@danzam: I could say the same about Piper Laurie's character from Carrie, What a witch!

How does Psycho not make the list?
May 9th, 2010 at 13:43 GMT
Very good job on this quiz, although I sucked at it. 5.
May 9th, 2010 at 13:46 GMT
Great quiz! However, the mother in Pleasantville was Joan Allen, not Jane Kaczmarek. Unless there's a second version I didn't see =P
May 9th, 2010 at 14:24 GMT
Joan Allen was the mother in the TV on Pleasantville, but the real life mother was Jane Kasmarek. Note to self: remember to check if the answers are listed alphabetically while solving quiz.

Of course don't forget the Estelle Getty/Sylvester Stallone classic, "Stop, Or My Mom Will Shoot!"
May 9th, 2010 at 16:58 GMT
You misspelled "Precious".... it is actually "Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire"
May 9th, 2010 at 19:08 GMT
"Darjeeling Limited?" Anjelica Huston is always the Wilson's momma!
May 9th, 2010 at 19:31 GMT
Psycho would have been interesting. Same actor for mother and son.
May 9th, 2010 at 20:32 GMT
Luke Wilson wasn't in the Darjeeling Limited. That was Owen Wilson. And Owen Wilson's character in The Royal Tenenbaums wasn't Anjelica Huston's son.

Felicity Huffman does not play the mother in Transamerica. She plays the father, who's about to undergo a sex change operation. That's the whole point of the movie.
May 9th, 2010 at 22:36 GMT
I wish I realized these were in alphabetical order -_-
May 9th, 2010 at 22:53 GMT
Estelle Getty/Sylvester Stallone? Or did Sly successfully get that movie deleted from the annals history?
May 9th, 2010 at 23:43 GMT
i loved that flintstones movie. i wish i owned a dictabird.
May 10th, 2010 at 00:28 GMT
Did we have to know it was National Treasure 2 and not National Treasure? Otherwise, great quiz!
May 10th, 2010 at 01:59 GMT
@JohnF. I know, I didn't even blink at it. Till I saw your comment. D'oh! Great quiz, nice mix of old/new; some terrific movies, and some real, uh, canines. Nice to see a lesser-known like "Transamerica" represented here, as well.

Buzzkill: Allison Janney was the stepmom in Juno.
