I must give due credit to Lori Lieberman for penning such insightful lyrics — all about her first-hand encounter in the audience at a Don McLean concert.

Being a teenager in the '90s, I was initially shocked when the lyrics "ONE TIME... TWO TIMES" didn't show up on this quiz.

Lori Lieberman was the first to perform this song (to no great success), but the lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel and the melody by Charles Fox. There is some controversy as to whether the original idea came from Lieberman based on her feelings at a Don McLean concert (Lieberman's version), or if the song was simply written by Gimbel and Fox (Fox's version). To me, Lieberman's story sounds suspiciously like a story a singer would make up to personalize a song for a stage show.

At the risk of sounding like my parents...now THAT's music! Great song and quiz. (Thanks for the extra columns too)

I remember hearing the Fugees' version when I was little, and wondering what exactly killing softly meant. Great song.
