Today, I learned a new word. I'm such a linguistic nerd. My tongue, it slurred When I said "urd" 'Cause no letters are beyond its third.

Agree with vikZ that lured should be added; also cured and toured. Good quiz.

People who think "lured", "cured", and "toured" should be added should check the source, which doesn't list pronunciations for those words that rhyme with "word".
People who think "absurd, inferred, deferred, occurred" should be added should read the title, which has "one-syllable" in nice large bold letters.

Thank you for pointing that out, Tahnan. I read and re-read the quiz notes wondering why those words would be overlooked but never scrolled all the way up to see the quiz page title assuming it was the same as the game name I had seen. It'd be nice if they werent written out significantly different.

I agree with lured and cured...toured however I can't picture those two sounding alike unless word sounds like ward? (and I say tour like tore).

Lured and cured? Really, somebody has got to have weird pronunciation if they think those rhyme with word.

Not sure how erred and word rhyme... maybe it's my NYC accent, because I can see how lured and cured rhyme with word.

@Montylaw woah woah don't put words in my mouth. I never said 'lured' should be added. I looked it up after taking the quiz and found out I've been saying it wrong the whole time

I pronounce "erred," and have always heard it pronounced, liked "aired." Nothing like "word."

I've always pronounced "erred" as sounding like "aired". I also agree with Milgita-in my part of the world lured and cured don't sound anything like word.

Being from the Great Lakes region, I also say "erred" like "aired;" however, it comes up in Evening Prayer Rite I at the cathedral where I work (in California) and people rhyme it with "word." It might be feigned in that context (i.e., not natural to California natives) - people might perceive it as more "correct," or British (is it?) or upper-class or something.
