Loved the quiz! I did notice that "scry" is not on the list. Have I been mispronouncing that all my life, or is it too archaic for the Merriam-Webster?

@Chunklets. Nope you are pronouncing it right but it is only in the unabridged dictionary. They cut it out of the 11th collegiate version the quiz uses as a reference. I'll add it as a bonus.

@WyvernSabres It is capitalized when it is a personal pronoun, but not when it is just a letter of the alphabet. I have rephrased things to make it clearer too. Thanks!

I used to be pretty firmly on Team None of Those Greek Letters Rhyme with Y (even π!), but if Merriam-Webster isn't even on my side then I suppose it's a losing battle.

Come on MW, every child of the 90's knows that Sai is a perfectly acceptable word, whether wielded by a turtle or not

I love these quizzes. This one kept me going right until the time ran out (I got 42/48) - and it's easy to over-complicate things. I was in the roughly one-third of quiz-takers so far who have missed "I"! Duh. :)

Forgot "wye". It's on the M-W site.

@JWJr I didn't use 'wye' because it is just an alternate spelling for the letter 'y.' I should at least include it as a bonus. Thanks!

Trie could be a bonus.

What about "ai"?

@nahtanoj999 'Trie' isn't a word in any version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary. @elroy 'ai' is only in the unabridged dictionary.

I wanted "scythe" to be on there, but it turns out "ˈsī "is its second pronunciation, not the first. Maybe add it as a bonus?

A bai is an Asian wind or mist, if I'm not mistaken. A sai is a martial arts weapon. I think hai is a word as well. Fun quiz. Also, 'ai' is pronounced 'ahh-ee', so it wouldn't work, unless there are alternate pronunciations. Scry is also a word (I think it means to see into the future, or predict, or something like that).

@koopa08 Please check the dictionary that this uses as a source. Those words do not appear in it, and to make a rhyming quiz you have to pick a source and go with it. Actually, 'ai' can be pronounced so that it rhymes with 'Y' as well, but that's not its primary pronunciation and it is only in the unabridged dictionary as well.

I understand that, and I know it limits the amount of answers for a quiz. But those are in fact words that rhyme with "Y", so perhaps they can be bonus answers or something.

"Wye" is NOT merely an alternate spelling of the letter y, even according to your source. In fact, that isn't the primary definition. It should be a regular answer, not a bonus.

@elephant_stone: The list applies to only one syllable words. That being the case though, I'm surprised 'sai' isn't on here. 'Sai' as in the Japanese dagger (Raph/Elektra).

Excellent and fun quiz. I found it hard to think of words which did not end in "y" though. However, the list would be MUCH longer if you allowed Aussie pronunciation, e.g. bay, day etc.

Surprised sai isn't in M-W dictionary. Katana and nunchaku made it, but bō and sai didn't. Sorry Raphael and Donatello.

@Chocolatl: Your argument is backed up by the fact that "wye" is a listing on M-W's online dictionary.

Too much scrabble (ai came to mind and try didn't). But I like your choice of source - these are all "real" words, so I can't blame my sad score on their obscurity, and it makes the quiz more fun.

In a "Criminal Minds" episode where "George Costanza" played the villain, they used "phi" a few times, always said as "fee" --- though a quick search says either way is acceptable.
