| @johnspartan4187: it's not technically wrong at all — "Symphony #9," "Symphony No. 9," "Ninth Symphony" and "Ninth" are all in common use and perfectly legitimate ways of referring to the piece. (I just looked up the cover of the first edition, and it doesn't even have a nine on the cover at all! It says, in German, "Symphony, with choral finale on Schiller's Ode 'To Joy', for large orchestra, four solo and four choral voices, composed and with deepest awe dedicated to His Majesty the King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm III, by Ludwig van Beethoven.") |
